Savings Bonds
U.S. Savings Bonds are one of the easiest ways to start saving for the future. San Juan Mountains Credit Union offers both EE Series Bonds and I-Bonds to its members. Both are great starter investment tools and are a safe investment. San Juan Mountains Credit Union is an agent to accept payment and the purchase orders for both types of bonds and then we forward orders to the Federals Reserve Bank where the bonds are inscribed and mailed to the recipient.
The saving bonds are usually delivered with in 15 business days. If you are in need of a certificate for a gift the Credit Union will give you pre-printed bond certificate when you purchase the bond so you do not have to wait the 15 days to give your gift. The following is some quick information to help you understand bonds:
When Purchasing Bond You Will Need:*The Recipients correct spelling of the name & social security number
EE Series Bonds:
*Original maturity is 17 years*Interest compounds semiannually
*Earns interest for up to 30 years
*Minimum holding period is 6 months
*Purchase limits: $15,000 purchase price, per person, per calendar year
*Sold half price of face value
I Bond's:
*Bonds usually increase in value every month
*Interest is compounded semiannually
*Earns interest for up to 30 years
*Minimum holding period is 6 months
*Purchase limits: $30,000 per person, per calendar year
*Sold at face value
